On the 26th of October, an awareness day on ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) will be held in Spain. With this event, we would like to provide anyone interested with some brief reflections on what it means to have a child, family member or friend with this neurodevelopmental disorder.
We know that it affects between 5% and 7% of the world’s population. That there are approximately one or two children for every 25 pupils in the classroom with this disorder in the Infant or Primary Education Stages in any part of the world. And that in many cases it continues to affect adults at a rate of 4%-5%. It is an invisible disorder that is suffered by those who live or coexist with it and that negatively affects almost all the activities that the child or adult must carry out effectively, whether they are: school, family, social, emotional or work-related. In addition to the above, we now know that ADHD that is not treated early has an extraordinary effect on academic performance and in many cases causes children to drop out of school without being able to complete their compulsory secondary education.
