The spanish Council of Ministers today approved the royal decree regulating student grants for the 2023-2024 academic year, which includes a new universal grant of 400 euros for students with specific educational needs. We give you all the details.
Family income, tuition fees, excellence in their studies or the location of their residence and that of their family home. These are factors that are taken into account in order to be eligible for the student grants applied by the Government. However, for this academic year 2023-2024 there are new features with the introduction of a new universal grant for students with specific educational needs. These are the key features of this grant and the requirements for eligibility:
- There is no income threshold and it is aimed at pupils with specific educational needs.
- It will have an amount of 400 euros and is justified by the fact that families with children with these needs assume very significant additional costs to meet the vital requirements of their children.
- The universal subsidy is compatible with the grant that each student may receive depending on his or her family’s economic situation and personal circumstances of special educational needs.
- Students who have reached the age of two, are enrolled in any non-university level of education, have a disability of at least 33 percent, or a serious behavioural, communication/language or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), or are highly gifted students are eligible for these grants.
- Some 240,000 students with special educational needs will receive this subsidy.
