FUNDANEED foundation has been present in Topas’ jail giving our program of prevention and health education.
It was given by the neuropsychologist María Heredero and the lawyer and president of the board of trustees Pilar Samaniego.
Our objectives were to improve information about drugs and their effects, avoiding the beginning of their consumption. Also to promote a healthy lifestyle and provide competencies and skills to reject consumption and promote proper social integration.
The psycho-educational workshops were very well attended by the inmates of the Educational Therapeutic Unit:
“The protagonist of your mental health, you are you”.
“Prevention of drug use: you know its neuro-psychological effects”.
Many of these mental disorders are related to addictions and substance use, which, according to some studies, in recent years have increased by 29% (46% in women compared to 25% among men), according to the latest report of the Spanish Society of Prison Health.
In recent decades, the problem of mental health in Spanish prisons has emerged as a silent crisis that requires urgent attention. Despite efforts to improve conditions for inmates, prisons in Spain continue to face significant challenges to adequately care for inmates with mental illness, when sooner or later they will have to be reintegrated back into society.
