On 27 April 2023, the General Foundation of the University of Salamanca signed a Collaboration Agreement with Fundaneed to carry out a campaign against the stigma of mental health in the child and youth population in order to raise awareness of the importance of taking care of mental health.
Both foundations aim, with this Collaboration Agreement, to create a greater network of prevention and awareness of everything related to mental health problems in the child and youth population.
It is not only a medical issue, but also, and on many occasions even more importantly, an educational issue so that children between the ages of 12 and 17 have and learn simple tools through participatory educational workshops to deal with affective disorders or disorders such as ADHD, ASD, or self-critical behaviour or suicidal ideas, or the management of stress or depression.
Simple tools such as knowing the social support network, the affection of friends, family and, in short, love, understanding and respect, produce very beneficial effects that improve mental health.
Social stigma and discrimination are seriously detrimental to health. Dealing with these issues in a natural way is the necessary way to “break the stigma” and achieve a “real inclusion” of people with mental health problems.
