Child physiotherapy deals with the treatment and care of newborns, children and adolescents with congenital alterations (spina bifida, agenesis, etc.) that affect their development or motor deficiencies of neuromuscular origin (cerebral palsy, fragile X syndrome, etc.) and/or musculoskeletal (infant scoliosis, hyperlordosis, etc.), so that the highest possible functional level can be obtained. Also included is respiratory rehabilitation in children affected by diseases (asthma, bronchiolitis, cystic fibrosis, etc.) that reduce their respiratory capacity.
Paediatric physiotherapy
Children’s physiotherapy also includes the treatment of the sequelae of acute diseases (meningitis, respiratory infections, malignant diseases, cardiac deformities, etc.) and conditions that have their origin in incorrect positions or fractures.
The objectives of children’s physiotherapy focus on the following aspects:
- Improving motor skills, both basic and specialized.
- Improving balance and coordination, as well as strength and endurance.
- Sensory and cognitive improvement.
- Stimulation of the central nervous system.
- Facilitating motor development directly related to the child’s age.
